License
Ember Motion Studio is published under the MIT License. You are free to use, modify, and distribute the engine for both commercial and personal purposes, subject to the conditions of the license.
Business Model (Open Core)
Section titled “Business Model (Open Core)”To ensure that Ember is sustainable long-term and that the technology continues to advance, we operate under a transparent model:
- Core Engine (FREE): The base engine (DVGE) is completely free and open-source under the MIT license. It is ideal for the community, students, and individual use. You have total control over the engine.
- PRO (Coming Soon): Designed for Power Users. It will add exclusive native tools like the Batch Render Panel for automated mass processing without touching code.
- ENTERPRISE (Coming Soon): Built for massive production houses and critical workflows. It will include hyper-powerful plugins compiled in C++/Rust for render farm orchestration.
Note on the long-term model: The PRO and ENTERPRISE features will be distributed as separate modules with a commercial license. The core of the engine will remain under MIT. The transition mentioned in the roadmap (v6.0.0) refers to closing the source code of the premium modules, not the core. Infrastructure Note: All commercial processing will be securely handled via Lemon Squeezy and Cloudflare, without invasive user accounts. Validation will be performed via a License Key.
Dependencies with Separate Licenses
Section titled “Dependencies with Separate Licenses”Ember Motion Studio relies on third-party technologies that have their own terms of use. The MIT license of this project applies only to the engine’s proprietary code.
Remotion (Rendering Engine)
Section titled “Remotion (Rendering Engine)”Remotion operates under a dual license, not MIT:
- Free: Individuals, non-profits, and small companies up to 3 employees.
- Commercial (Paid): Companies or organizations exceeding that threshold.
By using Ember Motion Studio, you agree that:
- The use of the integrated Remotion components is subject to the Remotion License.
- If your organization requires a commercial Remotion license, it is your responsibility to acquire it directly from them.
- Jonatan Barón does not grant, nor intend to grant, any sub-license over the Remotion code that contravenes its original terms.
